La Croix Blanche came under new management around the time we moved to Sainte-Osmane, it has been great to see it grow with the guidance of Celine, the new owner. If you would like a coffee (or something stronger) in the late morning, this is the place to go.

At midday Celine provides a traditional ‘Plat du Jour’ for a fixed price. There is normally a choice of main courses, with a set or buffet starter and desert.

A sign of just how good this restaurant is can be seen by the number of local people and tradesmen who visit. Just before 12.00, it’s quite quiet. Just after… well, grab a table quickly!

We really hope that Celine will open her restaurant in the evenings, if she does, we’ll let you know on this page.

Le Tricio is a superbly friendly café bar at the crossroads in Tresson. On Saturdays there is a market just opposite where you can buy vegetables, meat, cheese and our favourite… snails! Pleasantly busy at the weekend, you will receive a warm welcome from the new owners.

La Gare is a wonderful restaurant in Besse-sur-Bray which offers a ‘Plat du Jour’ at lunchtime during the week and evening meals on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

There is seating to the front of the restaurant under huge sun shades and spacious and comfortable interior, there is also a bar to the side of the restaurant where you can have a drink before your meal. The food is superb and very reasonably priced… when we visited on a Friday evening we had a Mexican themed menu which was quite superb!

The staff are very friendly and helpful, we thoroughly recommend a meal at La Gare.

Parking is easy to the front and sides of the restaurant.

La Banque is, as you might expect, set in an old bank. It still has the original safety box vault as part of the restaurant. There is plenty of room to eat inside or on the terrace to the front of the building overlooking the square.

They have a varied menu… we’ve tried fantastic galettes, salads and pizzas and haven’t been disappointed yet. During the summer months there is often live music to entertain you.

Parking is easy and right opposite the restaurant.

We had to find the Hôtel d'Angleterre, we are English after all. The hotel has an elegant restaurant which caters for guests and passers by. The food was creative and delicious, the atmosphere was calm and respectful.

If you are looking for somewhere a little special, this is the place for you.

There is plenty of parking in St. Calais, you will probably be able to park outside the hotel, or in a side road nearby. The main square car park is only a few minutes walk away.

Another restaurant we haven't visited yet, but have heard great reviews from family and friends who have had a meal there. As the name suggests, if you love pizza, this one is for you.

Pizza à Gogo is on the main road out of Bessé-sur-Braye, parking should be straightforward just outside the restaurant.

A very good restaurant with a covered terrace at the front. Owned by a well respected chef and his wife, Café de la Paix has an interesting and balanced menu. Well worth a visit.

Le Jesthia is a small, traditional restaurant with an open kitchen where you can see the meals being prepared. Open most lunchtimes, with the possibility of evening meals if you make a reservation beforehand.

Parking is very easy either just outside or in the surrounding streets.

One more restaurant we need to visit! Our friends at the local choir said we really have to go... if the locals recommend somewhere then it has to be worth eating there.

They have a very good choice of dishes with two differently priced evening menus.

Restaurant au Jardin des Saveurs is definitely one to try if you are eating out.

We visited Les Fourges in the late summer with friends for a Plat du Jour. It's a very pleasant, bright and airy restaurant with a varied menu including some of the tastiest galettes we've had outside of Le Mans!

Parking is easy, either in the road outside the restaurant or just opposite in the car park.
